Over the past while in my practice whilst talking to my clients we have often landed on the topic of surrender.
The current state of the world has forced us into a state of surrender and that can feel very uncomfortable.
We have been asked to work from home, school our children, stay within 5km of our homes and we have been in and out of lockdowns.
It has left many people feeling frazzled, tired and in a state of frustration.
You have been asked to trust, to have patience and to hold on and with great diligence, you have done your part.
You are used to making plans, booking your summer holidays, going out at the weekends, seeing your family and friends and now it’s all been halted.
We are being asked to surrender, probably for the first time in our lives we have had to let go of control and trust others with the very details of our lives.
It’s no wonder you are feeling tired, angry, frustrated, worried, stressed out & overwhelmed!
What if you just let go?
I know that there is so much uncertainty in life right now and I know that the default is to hold on tight & brace yourself amidst the chaos.
During the week I was reminded of a TV advertisement here in Ireland, it’s called Float to Live.
It talks about if you ever find yourself immersed in open cold water like the sea, your natural instinct is to fight & scramble, but with the shock of the cold it can be hard to stay above water and this natural instinct can actually lead to drowning.
The ad tells us to float if we want to live.
In times where you feel like you want to grapple with uncertainty, want to fight against the chaos and to grip on tight to the way life used to be. It might be worth trying to float instead.
What if you looked at your life in the past and remembered all the things that worked out for you. I bet if you think about it you can find lots of examples of when things were tough and they worked out. When we find the evidence of how things have worked out in the past we can allow ourselves to loosen our grip on the present, knowing that more often than not when we let go, things work out.
A tip for surrender

You’ve heard the phrase “go with the flow” it might be a good time to embrace this.
Embrace flow, surrender and float.
